At the beginning of this year, I was working on an open-world game with my spouse and daughter. The game development process has been fun, educational, and exciting, but unfortunately the scope of the game was a little too big, at least for now. As such, we decided to put the game on pause for the time being.
In the meantime, I decided to continue working on games, because I enjoy the process and outcome. I realized that a common piece of advice given to aspiring game devs is to start small, so I decided to create a “simple” endless runner game that has only a single input, for multiple reasons. First, I enjoyed NinJump, which was an endless runner with a single input. Second, designing a game with only one input was an interesting challenge. Third, having only one input became very useful as it’ll become clear later.
